During my senior year I was part of the Fashion Production Association (FPA) which is a student organization at the Ohio State University (OSU). FPA allows anyone throughout the OSU campus to participate. FPA puts on a fashion show at the end of Spring Semester each year. 2017 was the 25th Fashion Show which was named Overgrown. Students can either design garments which will be put on models that they find or they can help produce the show. I worked both on the production team and design team. Specifically, I helped with visuals, social media, music, participated in the marking video and designed a dress.
The dress displayed below I designed for FPA in four weeks on top of taking eighteen credit hours. The inspiration for the dress came from the theme of the fashion show which was new flower buds, trees, vines, tropical plants, desert plants, 3-D flowers and Christian Dior. I wanted to make sure my dress was designed as if it blossomed from the earth. The design came together as I found flowers, leaves, bark, anything inspiring from nature at multiple craft stores. As I pinned, hand sewed and glued my dress together it came to life and blossomed into a lavish gown.
